DEBRIEF NORFOLK COUNTY RAYNET SEMINAR FRI 7 MARCH 2008

The seminar was a success with 29 Members present including the Admin Committee.

The seminar was divided into 2 main parts, with different presentations: - the chairman welcomed all the members who had an opportunity to introduce themselves by giving their call signs, names and QTH. Tony 2E0BDB our Webmaster gave a short talk and powerpoint demo on how to access the web pages. A vote of thanks was given by all for the upgrading of our website. G4PSH, gave an in-depth talk on how to be ready for a call out, along with the various items of equipment which would be useful for different types of call out. This was followed by a brief account from G7VAH of what was going on behind the scenes and some of the operational problems that seemed apparent to the controller during the recent call out during the Great Yarmouth Flood alerts.

The second part was an opportunity for members to meet in small groups to discuss some of the issues that had arisen as well as making known aspects that concerned them. This was followed by a social time when members were able to talk amongst themselves and peruse the display of different equipment that various members have and make use of.

There were many interesting points raised during the evening, both during the presentations and from the group discussions which have been recorded and are to be discussed in future admin committee and hopefully will improve both the quality of service Norfolk County RAYNET can provide to user services but also in the way members are involved.

There appears to be a desire for another similar type of gathering – suggestions have been practical evenings – e.g. making home brew aerials, training in message handling, or the possibility of a meeting in a different location to allow easier access for members further away from Norwich.

Hopefully members who attended will email further feedback to G0SMS, before the next Admin meeting in April.
